Draconis in Oklahoma City

Draconis is a multi-award winning fusion belly dancer from North Texas. His unique somatic approach to teaching belly dance and high-impact performances make him a sought-after instructor, performer, and choreographer. ...and he's coming to Oklahoma City!

Saturday, August 10, 10:00-12:00 MOVEMENT GENERATION: ECLECTIC DANCE LABORATORY
This movement lab is a deep dive into experimental movement, utilizing many different techniques for generating interesting movement. These are tried-and-true methods for stimulating creativity, breaking out of movement ruts, and getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. There will be partner work, cued improvisation, and much more! If you feel like you’ve been copy and pasting the same combinations over and over again for each choreography, this is your dance detox. Intermediate to Advanced.

Saturday, August 10, 1:30-3:30 POWERFUL LAYERS
Draconis teaches this class on how to masterfully layer your movements to create dynamic, complex combinations. We break down the formula for demystifying combinations, muscle activation, musicality, all the way down to accents and nuances. At the end of class we play a rousing game of “Sabotage Your Friends” with Draconis’s infamous COMBO BLOCKS!! Layered movements add complexity, nuance, and emotional depth to a dancer’s performance, as well as a stimulating exercise for the mind! Intermediate to Advanced.

Sunday, August 11, 10:00-12:00 UNWRAPPING YOUR PRESENCE: STAGE PRESENCE CULTIVATION
Part lecture, part movement. In this workshop we will explore fundamentals, common misconceptions, and create a toolkit for developing and growing your presence on stage. Presence is not “you have it or you don’t”! We will explore three parts to presence: pre-stage, on-stage, and aftercare (or, the performance vulnerability hangover!). Note-taking is encouraged. All levels.

Sunday, August 11, 1:30-3:30 TWERKSHOP: TWERK FUSION
It’s all about the booty! With his vast experience working in burlesque, pole, and variety shows, Draconis made this workshop to share the secrets of isolating your derriere. Included are stretches to loosen up those glutes, safety procedures, drills for your buns, and a short Twerk Fusion choreography! KNEE PADS HIGH ENCOURAGED. Sense of humor required!! All levels.

2 classes $80
